Antonia “Toya” Johnson Carter is a native of the downtown area of New Orleans, Louisiana. She is a product of an environment that has truly shaped who she is. Toya is the child of Anita Johnson and Walter Andrews. At an early age, she was separated from her siblings and shuffled from one family member to the next, never really feeling a sense of love or belonging. Despite her difficult upbringing, Toya went on to forge a new and exciting path.
She is the childhood sweetheart and former wife of internationally acclaimed rap artist Lil Wayne. Together, at the early age of 15, she and Lil Wayne had a daughter named Reginae, now 11. After the marriage ended and in an effort to change her surroundings, Toya moved her family to Atlanta. Despite her tumultuous upbringing and failed marriage, her survival of both confirmed her. Currently, Toya is writing her first book. It is a memoir that gives readers an in-depth look at her journey from being a teen mother and wife to independent businesswoman. The memoir, which is dedicated to all women, is an inspirational and encouraging read. Toya’s hope is to inspire women with similar struggles and those that can somehow see themselves in her narrative.
When not writing, Toya enjoys volunteering with at-risk teens and teen mothers. However, her first priority is being a good mother. Toya is passionate about causes affecting the well being of women and youth. She is developing a Big Sister program to encourage and inspire young at risk teen girls call “Visual Beauty”. Toya also wants to start a children’s clothing line inspired by her daughter, Reginae. Her hobbies include bowling, shopping and reading.
